As it’s October 2016 already, It’s high time for another news item.
A lot of things have happened in the past 14 months. On a personal level my wife and I moved into our new house and exactly 6 months ago our gorgeous little girl was born.
Career-wise, quite a bit happened too. I decided to concentrate more on local (ish) gigs and so stopped playing with Malaya Blue, leaving me more time to play with the wonderful Claire Barker Band. I’m still teaching at Norwich School (and I’m now in my 18th year there I think!), and offer lessons at Create Norwich.
Back in August I did a lovely “one-off” gig at the New Crawdaddy Club, Essex, with a great bunch of musicians, and we’re plotting a couple more “one-offs” including one confirmed in Norwich in December.
The photo at the top of this post was taken at the gig and includes: me, Andy Cooper (hammond), special guest Mark Howes (guitar – Dove & Boweevil), Phil Marshall (sax), Yve Mary B (vocals), Andrew Walker (guitar) and Trev Turley (bass).
The gig was recorded and is available on CD from bassist and bandleader Trev Turley (find him on Facebook here) – there’s a very limited run of 100 copies so when they’re gone, they’re gone. We’ve also had some radio airplay of a couple of tracks from the gig on various blues radio stations, which was a nice surprise.
Unfortunately I missed a lot of my gigs and teaching in September as I had two herniated discs in my spine which caused sciatica. I found it impossible to stand or sit for more than 10 minutes, and walking or driving was very painful. Thankfully, I am much better now, and although there is still some discomfort, I am 90% back to full health.
I’ve also rejigged my website as you can see, and I am determined to put up blog posts on a more regular basis. Let’s see how that goes…!
