Frequently asked questions:

Do you give private drum lessons?

I have given private drum lessons in the past, but due to my busy touring schedule, I can no longer do this. I can recommend some teachers who may be able to assist you:

Phil Davison www.phildavison.co.uk (Norfolk)
Tim Skinner www.onthebeatproductions.biz (Norfolk)

Phil and Tim are personal friends of mine, and come highly recommended.

What are the sizes of the drums/cymbals you use with The Oli Brown Band?

I am currently using a Premier Genista kit in White Marine Pearl. Mike Ellis at Baskey Vintage expertly restored and serviced the kit, and also created the custom bass drum display head.

Sizes: 13" x 9" tom, two 16" x 16" floor toms, 24" x 16" bass drum. The snare is a 14" x 5.5" Premier Modern Classic (maple) or occasionally a vintage Ludwig 400. The small snare to the left of the hi-hats is a Premier 10" x 6" birch.

Cymbal-wise, it's 15" hi-hats, 20" ride, 18" and 19" crashes.

I also use various items of Rhythm tech percussion, including a large studio cowbell (over my first floor tom) and a Ribbon Crasher (over the second floor tom).

Why do you play Premier drums?

I have used Premier drums by choice since I was about 10 years old - I had a Premier Royale drum kit as my first "real" kit. I then moved up to the Premier XPK, and had 3 different kits in that range. Their tone, durability and looks were great, and all at a reasonable price too. I then moved on to the Premier Series range of drums which blew me away yet again. I had two kits, both in Red Moon Sparkle. In April 2008 I became an official Premier endorser and I currently have a Premier Series Classic kit in Rainforest Sparkle and a Premier Genista in White Marine Pearl. I also use Premier 2000 series cymbal stands. Despite being a very lightweight range of stands, they still withstand a regular thrashing, and constant tearing down and setting up. Another bonus is that the tripod legs fold flat against the floor for that retro look.

What are Baskey Ruggluggs?

The Baskey Ruggluggs are markers fixed on my drum mat so that my kit is set up the same way every night. They also make sure that the cymbals and drums don't move from their positions during the hardest of gigs. Such a simple idea, but very effective. An added bonus is that they are all colour-coded, so even Fred my bass player can set my kit up correctly! I also endorse the Baskey DrumRugg, which zips into two halves making transportation much easier.

You can buy the album now from Oli's website at www.olibrownband.com via the "buy now" page. The album is also available in HMV stores, and online from HMV online, Play.com and Amazon, and of course from the band at gigs. The album is also available for download from iTunes.
