Frequently asked questions:

Do you give private drum lessons?

I have given private drum lessons in the past, but due to my busy touring schedule, I can no longer do this. I can recommend some teachers in the Norfolk area who may be able to assist you:

Phil Davison www.phildavison.co.uk
Tim Skinner www.onthebeatproductions.biz
Kit Marsden www.manek.org.uk

Phil, Tim and Kit are personal friends of mine, and come highly recommended.

What are the sizes of the drums/cymbals you use with The Oli Brown Band?

I use a Premier series kit: 13" x 11" and 15" x 13" toms, a 24" x 18" bass drum, and normally a 14" x 5.5" snare (a Premier Modern Classic or a vintage Ludwig 400). Occasionally I add a 10" x 6" Premier auxiliary snare to the left of my hi-hat.
Cymbal-wise, it's 15" hi-hats, 20" ride, 18" and 19" crashes, and a 14" china. Occasionally I add 6" and 8" splashes

Why do you use Trueline sticks?

After years of going through most of the major brands of sticks, I met the UK Trueline distributor at a Billy Ward drum clinic in 2006. He gave me a sample pair of sticks, and I was smitten! They just feel right in my hands, they are durable, and they also have some innovative ideas including the Diamond Grips and Power Grips. I generally use 5B Standard Grips andhave endorsed Trueline since early 2007.

Why do you play Premier drums?

I have used Premier drums by choice since I was about 10 years old - I had a Premier Royale drum kit as my first "real" kit. I then moved up to the Premier XPK, and had 3 different kits in that range. Their tone, durability and looks were great, and all at a great price too. I then moved on to the Premier Series range of drums which blew me away yet again. Both my current kits are in a gorgeous Red Moon Sparkle, and look awesome under stage lights. They also of course sound fantastic. In April 2008 I became an official Premier endorser.
